Findings
Critical
The site is very slow to load on mobile
Measurement: Mobile LCP 11.1 s, total blocking time 1,580 ms, performance score 34/100 (Lighthouse lab measurement, simulated mobile; the test machine was slower than the reference, so the score may be slightly pessimistic)
Fix: Lighten the homepage slider, load the main image first, remove unused scripts and serve images as WebP/AVIF.
Critical
Two versions of the site coexist (http and https)
Measurement: Both the http and https versions respond (status 200) with no server redirect, and each declares itself the official version (canonical tag). On the https version, 4 CSS/JS files are blocked by the browser (mixed content, 10 insecure requests flagged by Lighthouse).
Fix: 301-redirect all http traffic to https, fix internal http links and point every canonical to https.
Important
No new content in over 10 years
Measurement: The latest blog post and the last page updates are over 10 years old (sitemap dates). 16 of the 23 pages crawled have fewer than 300 words, menus included.
Fix: Expand service pages (indicative prices, timelines, service area, common questions) and regularly publish recent projects.
Important
Google is not told this is a local business
Measurement: Structured data on 1 page out of 23 (homepage, WebSite type only). No LocalBusiness markup: no address, phone, opening hours or service area.
Fix: Add full LocalBusiness (LandscapingBusiness) markup on the homepage and contact page, consistent with the Google Business Profile listing.
Moderate
Incomplete titles and descriptions
Measurement: 7 of 23 pages have a title under 20 characters (a single word followed by a dash), 6 pages have no meta description, and the blog page has no H1.
Fix: Rewrite each title as "Service + city + name" and write a unique description for every page.
Moderate
Misdeclared sitemap and broken link
Measurement: The robots.txt file points to a sitemap that returns a 404 error (the real sitemap lives at another address). The homepage links internally to a 404 page.
Fix: Fix the sitemap address in robots.txt, remove or redirect the broken link, and check server and WordPress updates.
Prioritized action plan
- Force https (301 redirect), fix mixed content, and check server and WordPress updates.
- Cut mobile load time: prioritised main image, lighter slider, WebP images, unused scripts removed.
- Add LocalBusiness markup and check name/address/phone consistency with the Google listing.
- Rewrite titles and meta descriptions on service pages, fix the sitemap entry in robots.txt and the broken link.
- Expand service pages and publish at least one recent project per month, with clear answers to customer questions.
AI visibility: what was checked
Checked on 2026-10-11: robots.txt blocks no AI crawler (13 crawlers checked in the file, including GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended: all allowed). Content is readable without JavaScript. No llms.txt file (404, optional file). Structured data limited to a WebSite type on the homepage: no business information (address, services, area) marked up for search engines and AI assistants. We did not measure whether the site is cited in AI assistant answers.
Method
Read-only audit run on 2026-10-11 with our SEO audit tools: homepage rendering on desktop and mobile, sitemap reading, check of which AI crawlers are allowed, a crawl capped at 30 addresses (23 distinct pages) and structured data analysis. Speed is a lab measurement (Lighthouse, Google's measuring tool, on simulated mobile): there is no real-visitor data, as Google's public API was unavailable that day. The overall score applies our weighting (technical 22%, content 23%, titles and tags 20%, structured data 10%, speed 10%, readability for AI 10%, images 5%). Category scores are assigned from these measurements; the speed score is the mobile Lighthouse score itself.
